Delaware County Daily Times (Primos - Upper Darby, PA) - July 26, 2006 Deceased Name: Charles F. Alburger Jr., 81, (obit) Civil Service employee; World War II veteran Charles F. Alburger Jr., 81, of Spring City, formerly of Rutledge,died July 20 at the Southeastern Pennsylvania Veterans Center inSpring City. Born in West Philadelphia, Mr. Alburger grew up in Rutledge, where hewas an active member of the Rutledge Fire Co. At the height of World War II, Mr. Alburger enlisted in the UnitedStates Army and served with the 488th Engineering Co. His dutiescarried him to France and Germany, where he saw action in major combatzones along the Rhine River. His experiences with the 488th served ashis lifetime inspiration. Immediately following the war, he joined the Air Force and servedthree years at Mitchell Air Force Base in Hempstead, N.Y. After his military service, Mr. Alburger worked as a Civil Serviceemployee with the U.S. Department of the Army at Valley Forge ArmyHospital in Phoenixville and at the U.S. Naval Hospital inPhiladelphia for more than 30 years. He was baptized and received into membership at WestminsterPresbyterian Church in West Philadelphia. He later joined ChambersMemorial Presbyterian Church in Rutledge. Mr. Alburger was the devoted son, caregiver and financial supporter ofhis mother until her death in 1974. Art, automobiles and attention tohis family were his lifelong interests. He was the son of the late Charles F. and Jennie C. Alburger andbrother of the late Jane Haseltine, all of Rutledge. Survivors: Sister, Caroline Stuart of Everett; brother, George C.Alburger of Swarthmore; seven nieces and nephews. Service: 1:30 p.m. Friday at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery atFort Indiantown Gap military reservation. The Rev. Steve Jones,chaplain at SEPA Veterans Center, will officiate. Burial will follow. Contributions: Chambers Memorial Presbyterian Church, 2 Sylvan Ave.,Rutledge, PA 19070. Arrangements: David J. Boyko Funeral Home, Macungie.
