Obit - Our dear Father M. G. Barkman, son of Mr. and Mrs. PeterBarkman, born Feb 23, 1868, at Ruckenau, South Russia, passed out ofthis life on Saturday evening, sept. 24, about 10 o'clock, at the ageof 81 years, 7 months and 4 days. At the age of six years he came with his parents to the United Statesin the great exodus of 1874, and settled with them in Marion County,KS, where they experienced the hardships of pioneers. Here our father attended the elementary school, and in 1888 herealized his lost condition and after much prayer accepted Christ ashis personal Saviour. On March 3, 1889 he was baptized uponconfession of faith by the Rev. J. A. Wiebe and accepted intomembership of KMB church, remaining true and loyal to his Lord'schurch. Later in life he transferred his membership to the MB church. On Sept 7, 1890 he united in holy wedlock with our mother, AnnaBuschman, and to this union 15 children were born, 13 of which are nowliving, two having preceded him in death. On Feb. 17, 1935 our dear mother was taken out of the family circle, after which our father, with the exception of a few years, made hishome with his children. Father and his family settled with many others near Weatherford, OK,and there established a home typical of the pioneers. He was a hardworking man and God blessed his efforts so that he was privileged tohave an independent living. He was a good provider, and always hadthe welfare of the family at heart. He enjoyed his church, and whenever he could he was ready and willingto help. His impaired hearing caused him much distress as he wasunable to hear completely sermons which he enjoyed. He was in good health most of his life, but a few years ago he beganto fail, and in July he became bedfast. He suffered little pain, buthe grew weaker until his death. He leaves to mourn six daughters: Anna (Mrs. Abe Hamm of Butler, OK);Nalie (Mrs. Jacob Sawatzky of Foss); Marie (Mrs. H. H. Ratzlaff ofClinton); Agnes (Mrs. Dick Penner of Buhler); Helen (Mrs. AlbertEdiger of Reedley, CA); Matilda (Mrs. Henry Peters of Reedley, CA).Seven sons, Martin (Reedley, CA); Henry (Los Angeles); Peter (Fresno,CA); Jacob (Enid, OK); David (Reedley, CA); Dick (Lincoln, NE);Jonathan (Reedley, CA); three brothers, Rev. J. G. Barkman (Dinuba,CA) and Dick (Herbert, Sask.). Two sisters, Mrs. Mary Siemens andMrs. J. E. Priebe, both of Herbert, Sask., 63 grandchildren, 14 greatgrandchildren, and number of sons and daughters-in-law. We sorrow not as those that have no hope. We are looking forward to ameeting in the morning. Blessed hope that in Jesus is given. In oursorrow to cheer and sustain. That soon in the mansions of heaven weshall meet with our loved one again. Blessed hope, how it shines inour sorrows. LIke the star over Bethlehem's plain. That we may bewith him ere the morrow. We shall meet our loved one again.
