Written 12 March 1807, Proved 22 April 1807, Settled: 23 May 1820 Will #268, Adams Co. Court House Will of Christian Reck of Cumberland Twp. IN THE NAME OF GOD, AMEN. I, Christian Reck of Cumberland Twp., inthe of Adams and State of PA being sick and weak in body but of soundmind memory and understanding before God for the same. Do make,publish this my last will and testament in manner and form followingviz: PRINCIPALLY and first of all, I commend my immortal soul intothe hands of God who gave it and my body to the earth to be buried ina decent and christen like manner at the discretion of my executorshereinafter named and as to such worldly estate wherewith it hathpleased God to bless me in this life I give and dispose of the same inthe following manner viz:- It is my will and I order and direct that my just debts and funeralexpenses shall be first paid out of surplus of grain or what can bemost conveniently spared out of my estate by my executors hereinafternamed. Item: I give and bequeath unto my eldest son, John Reck, my younghorse now rising three years old, saddle and bridle, one cow and oneewe and two lambs - over and above any of my other children. Item: I give and bequeath, unto my beloved wife, Sophia Reck, all therest residue and remainder of my estate, real and personal, in trustfor the maintaining, clothing and educating my children, during herwidowhood or until the youngest child shall arrive at the age oftwenty one years. And at her marriage or my youngest child arrivingat the age of twenty one years, whichsoever shall first happen, it ismy will that my whole estate real and personal shall be then sold andthat three hundred pounds shall be put to interest for the use andsupport of my said wife during her natural life, and the principal sumto be divided equally amongst my children at her decease. My executors hereinafter named are also hereby empowered, thesurvivors or survivors of them to sell my real estate and to conveythe same to the purchaser or purchasers and as touching all the restresidue and remainder of my estate of what kind and nature the samemay be or wheresoever found, I give bequeath and devise the same untomy nine children viz: John; Elizabeth intermarried with AbrahamLighterwalter, jr.; Jacob; Catherine; Christian; Sarah, Samuel,William and David to be divided amongst them equally share and sharealike but it is my will, not withstanding what is herein beforementioned my daughter Elizabeth having already received about fiftypounds worth at and since her marriage that prior to the abovedistribution my other children shall be made equal to her as follows,viz: my son John shall receive fifty pounds within one year after mydecease and all my other children before mentioned, my said daughterElizabeth excepted, a like sum of fifty pounds each on this day oftheir arrival severally at the age of twenty one years, or theirmarriage and the fund out of which I expect these sums may be paid isthe money yet coming to me out of my father's estate aided by asurplus which may arise off my farm besides supporting my family asbefore mentioned. It is also my will that any farm surplus [if any]shall be applied [unreadable, hole in paper] improvements on the landor put to interest for the increase of my estate. And lastly, I nominate, constitute and appoint my said wife, SophiaReck, my said son, John Reck, and my friend, Samuel Beecher, to be theexecutors of this my will, hereby revoking all other wills legaciesand bequests by me heretofore made and ratifying and confirming thisand no other to be my last will and testament.
