[fm Kfam-1135 of 10 Nov 2000]:
But what I found most interesting is the 10 May 1818 marriage of Johannes
Knabenschuh in Offenbach. This record tells an interesting story; since we
knew already of the same couple's 1818 May 17th. marriage inButzbach. From
which Butzbach record we learn that: Johannes Knabenschuh was a Bürger and
Strumpfwebermeister the son of Christian Knabenschuh [i] the local Bürger
and Strumpfwebermeister, who is still living, and the deceased mother Maria
Christina Lichtenfels; and that he married Katherina Sophia Muth from
Offenbach who's parents were John Conrad Muth, burger and
Kaffawebermeister??(maybe a velvet weaver?) from Offenbach, and Dorathea
Burkhardt. In this family there are two children, one son and a daughter -
and the bride is the eldest child, age 26 years. Signatures on the Butzbach
marriage entry are : Johann Ernst Knabenschuh [his 14 year old nephew - good
signature]; and Heinrich Ludwig Braun a brick-layer who is related tothe
bride.

Obviously Johannes[i] from Butzbach married Kath. Muth in Offenbach at the
family's "Reform" Church (which would have satisfied the Offenbach family
andmade the marriage legal to them), then one week later (17 May 1818) they married again
in Butzbach's "Evangelische" Church (which would have made the Butzbach
family happy and made the marriage legal and their children legitimate in
the eyes of Butzbach). Wow! I guess that in those days this was how things
were done. We must remember that there was no easy way from eitherof the
families to travel between Offenbach (Main) & Butzbach. I wonder what
Johannes[i] was doing in Offenbach? Maybe he was finishing off his Geselle
period. I will obtain the Offenbach film to see if it contains any
information of interest. I never did understand what the occupation
Kaffawebermeister really was. Maybe the Offenbach record will write it a
different way.
