General Notes: -----Begin German baptism record or translation----- Translation from the records of: Register of Baptisms Huetten (6/1869) * Jan. 30th, 1869 ~ Feb. 27th, 1869 [the mother is ] 23 years old Johann Heimlich Hass, legitimate son of the smith August Hans HassinAscheffel and Anna née Stroeh. Godparents :1, Peter Stroeh 2, Christian Petersen3, Marie Petersen, all in Ascheffel. ------End German record or translation and comments----- Following is a story of Johann Heinrich Hass, written by his granddaughter: "Johanna Heinrich Hass was my grandfather. He was born in 1869 inSchleswig Holstein, Germany. His own children knew little about his parents or his family. My dadspoke of an older half-brother that went to Iowa. My aunt said he told her hewasin an orphanage when he was nine years old. My dad also said that his dad[his father was called Henry - not Johann Heinrich] did not know his dad. He came to America on June 6, 1895 with a family named Krabbenhoft.Years ago a man named John Hass came to see my grandpa.They established the relationship of cousin. John was the father of Adela Hass Zolman. Ihave written to or met some members of this family. My grandmother was Maria Büll. She was born in July of 1875 inSchleswig Holstein, Germany. Her mother was Dorothea Büll. Henry learned the blacksmith and nail making trade in Germany. InAmerica he worked for a blacksmith for awhile and then went into farming. Henry and Maria had 6 children. They moved into town in 1926. In Decof 1929 Henry was injured in a car accident. He later died of injuries.LaterMaria moved back out to the farm with the youngest son. In Oct 1949 Maria passedaway. My father, Carl August Hass, married Irene Stangeland in 1947. I wasborn in July 1949. My brother was born in November 1950. Dad passed away in 1978. Mom passed away in 2001. I married Richard Klinkel in 1974. We had five children. The oldest ismarried. They have 3 children." This is taken from a letterfrom Johann's grand daughter in 2006. They are listed on the Ellis Islandsite as Johannes Hass with Heinrich, Johann, Magdalena, Heinrich(1year),Friedrich, Emma and Magdalena (3 years) KRABBENHOEFT. The ship was the Augusta Victoria, arrived Jun 06, 1895, port of departure was hamburg viaSouthampton.
