TOD: From the obituary of his father: George Rummel Sr. was born in Austria Feb. 15, 1845. He died at the age of 100 years. He grew to manhood in his native country and was married to Catherine Helget there. While in Germany he followed the trade of shoemaker. His daugahter, Anna Rummel (Mrs. Wenzel Schwinghammer), came to this country first with friends and after her marriagae she had her parents and brothers and sisters come in 1902. The family stayed at the Schwinghammer home in Springfield until they were able toget a home of their own. George was employed at the A.C. Ochs Brick and Tile Co. until he was about 73 years of age when he retired. His wife died in 1919. After her death he made his home with the Schwinghammer family for 26 years. He was Springfield's first and only centenarian. He was a familiar figure in the downtown district for many years and up until the winter before his death. He passed away April 8, 1945 in his sleep at the home of his daughter, Anna.
