"Aubrey Alice was born July 15, 1895, at Mayfield, Kentucky. Shecompleted four years of high school work in Texarkana. She marriedWilliam Fannon Thompson of Texarkana on February 1, 1915. Two childrenwere born to Will and Aubrey: WilliamFannon, Jr., and Morris Eugene. When Will died, Fannon was 20 and Morris 17.
Will's last illness left the family in debt. Aubrey and her twoboys were then faced with their first great challenge to meet familyresponsibilities wholly on their own. Aubrey wrote later, "I immediatelystarted my comeback in the business world confronted with snags and abrick wall as high as the Woolworth Tower. I did not get over it, but Imanaged to climb up a little. Honorable mention must go to the mostwonderful boys in the world, Fannon and Morris, who stood by meat everyroad hazard with their financial support and full cooperation.
Fannon had a job, and Morris worked after school hours in a laundry, and I fought for extra earnings at part-time jobs at Titche-Goettinger,Sanger Bros., and A. Harris Company. Titche-Goettinger gave me a regularjob December 1, 1937. Inorder to prepare myself for business, I enteredthe P.W.A. Business School in the City Hall. My teacher was kind, patient, and sympathetic and gave me a lot of needed attention. I workedfrom 9:00 to 6:00 and went to night school from 6:00 to10:00, gettinghome about 10:30 to cook, wash and iron until 12:00 midnight or after.
As soon as I thought I could hold a job, I went to work as a typistand clerk for General Insurance Co., in 1938. In 1940, I became theSecretary, Bookkeeper, and Cashier for the Provident Life and AccidentInsurance Co. While on this job, I went to night school for two yearstrying to improve my efficiency as an office clerk. By 1948, I hadbecome quite experienced in office work and was made the Supervisor ofthe Periodical Department of the Presbyterian Book Store in Dallas, aposition which I now hold (Sept. 1956). In the meantime, I have beentaking courses in business administration and, in addition, reading manybooks of high quality to deepen my appreciation of the great values ofour culture. Such books areavailable to the employees free of chargeand I have taken every advantage of this opportunity.
I feel that my membership in the Christian Church has played a bigpart in my life. I could not have lived to tell this story if I had notfelt the warm friendship and encouragement so generously and sincerelygiven me by the good people of that church which I needed so much to helpme fight the battles of life."
Aubrey's (Mrs. Aubrey Thompson) address is 617-1/2 N. Madison,Dallas, Texas."

Aunt Aubrey told the story to son Fannon of "when she was a littlegirl out on the farm in Mayfield, KY, about how her father would pay thechildren 5 cents a jar for all the worms they could pick off of thetobacco plants that he grew. She never made as much money as herbrothers because she didn't like to touch the worms with her hands. Sheused two sticks to pick them off the tobacco leaves and put in her jar".
Fannon said that he, his brother and parents lived in Houston yearsago from 1929 - 1933. They later moved to Dallas.
