George was hit by a car December 15, 1929. George E. Schmidt changed his name to Smith. He was hit by a car coming out of a bar on Lafayette St. He was hit by Michael Hanna. George died of a fractured skull. He worked for 30 years at the International Heater Company. Records at Forest Hill Cemetery says his parents were John and Minnie Smith. He was a veteran of the US Army. The 1910 Utica Census, ward 6, said he was living on Whitesboro Street, Utica and was an item fitter in the foundry.
