Harriet C. Staib of Whiting, N.J. passed away peacefully on January 18 at the Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus, Lakewood. She was born in Yonkers, N.Y. and still kept in touch with several childhood friends. She graduated from Wilson College with a degree in economics, then worked for the telephone company in customer service until she decided to concentrate full-time on raising her family. She resided in Hastings-on-Hudson and Yorktown Heights, N.Y. before coming to Whiting in 1983.
Harriet is predeceased by her beloved husband of 31 years, the late Raymond E. Staib who passed away in 1981. She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn SooHoo and her husband Paul, and Sue Staib. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Mark and his wife Annie SooHoo, Jeffrey and his wife Megan SooHoo, and Amy SooHoo White and her husband Tom. Harriet is also survived by two great grandchildren, Jackson and Max SooHoo.
She was involved in various organizations throughout the years. She and her husband were matron and patron of the Order of Eastern Star in New York state. She was a member of the Community Reformed Church in Whiting.
She enjoyed traveling, fulfilling a lifelong dream of seeing the Panama Canal and Iceland. She also enjoyed visiting her grandchildren in various locations such as Washington, D.C., Boston, Denver, Chicago, California, and Paris. She loved lighthouses, Monet paintings, daisies, and sweet potatoes.
Friends may call on Monday, January 25 from 3:00 – 7:30 pm and on Tuesday January 26 from 9:00 am until Funeral Services begin at 10:00 am from the Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home at 115 Lacey Road in Whiting, N.J. 08759.
