Armond Ballard, 79, Fort Pierre, died Saturday, March 31, 2007, Maryhouse TCU, Pierre.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, April 4, 2007, 3 p.m., Riverside Cemetery, Aberdeen. A reception will follow at the VFW in Aberdeen.

Armond Ballard was born Oct. 20, 1927 in Ardmore, Okla. to Thomas Jefferson andCordelia (Hopkins) Ballard. He grew up and attended school in the Ardmore area.Armond worked for a time before joining the U.S. Navy where he served for a short time. Armond then went to work as a heavy equipment mechanic and worked for construction companies, bringing him to Pierre to work on Oahe Dam. It was in Pierre, that Armond met the love of his life Patty Potter. He was drafted into theNavy during the Korean War, but was transferred to the Army for his mechanic experience. Upon returning to Pierre, Armond and Patty were married. He worked in Montana for a time until 1954, when they moved back to Pierre to work for his father-in-law selling beer. In 1963, Armond moved his family to Aberdeen, where heowned and operated a beer wholesalership. Armond later bought his father-in-lawout to expand his business to Pierre. After selling his business, he moved to Fort Pierre and purchased the Chuck Wagon, which he owned at the time of his death.
Armond was very active in Aberdeen and Pierre, belonging to and serving asCommander and other offices in the VFW and American Legion in each city. Armondwas instrumental in building the new building for the VFW in Aberdeen as well.He was a member of the Pierre Fire Department, a member of the Aberdeen SertomaClub and helped develop Storybook Land. Armond was also a member of the Elks, Eagles, and Moose Lodge. He was also a member of the South Dakota Beer WholesalerAssociation serving many offices, and sponsored many softball and bowling teamsover the years. Armond was especially proud of being the 1975 Frosty for the Aberdeen Jaycee's Snow Queen Contest. Armond was always willing to lend a helping hand to the area service clubs and to friends and people in need. Armond had a big heart and believed in looking at the best in people. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing cards, hunting and traveling with his wife Patty.

Armond issurvived by his son Arden and his wife Sharon of Cathedral City, Calif.; daughter Angele Dulany of Ipswich; grandchildren Jamie Ballard of Chicago, Jon Ballardof Cathedral City, Calif., Reasa Dulany of Ipswich, Ryan Dulany and his wife Melissa of Warner; two step-great-grandchildren; one sister Myrta Berryhill of Ardmore, Okla.; one adopted grandchild Kolby Solberg; and special friend Diane Knigge.

Armond was preceded in death by his parents, wife Patty, one son-in-law Roger Dulany, six brothers, and three sisters.
