ATHENS - Carl Walter Anton was born on Jan. 4, 1928, on Golden Hill in Danbury, Conn., the son of Karl and Elsie. He died on June 13, 2016, at his home on Chapman Ridge, with his family with him, after a long illness.
He was married for 58 years to MaryAnn (Kendall). Carl and his wife were dairy farmers on Chapman Ridge, after moving to Maine in 1967. Carl also raised chickens, with an egg route in Athens.
They had four children: Guy and wife Vanessa of Athens, Kurt of Athens, Scott and his wife Gemma of Solon, and Pamela Easler and husband Jim of Norridgewock. He also is survived by 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He loved old time country music and was a singer-songwriter, writing over 1,000 songs, mostly about his own adventures. He could make up a song on the spot. He would volunteer to sing at most benefits and loved to perform his veteran's song.
He was buried the way he wanted at his home, at the Anton Family Cemetery on June 14, with the whole family in attendance.
