TOD: OBIT - Anna Meidl Baumann - Marshfield - from Diane Deci, March 2000 Death of Mrs Louis Baumann - Old and Highly respected Marshfield Resident dies in the West. Funeral from St Johns Catholic Church at 9:30 this (Wednesday) forenoon. On Friday afternoon this community was shocked by a message announcing the death of Mrs Louis Baumann, wife of ex-Alderman Louis Baumann, the head of one of the cities most popular and prominent families, who died earlier in the day at Eagle Butte, South Dakota. Mrs Baumann has been in poor health for the past two years and it was largely in the hope of benefiting her health that Mr Baumann decided last year to leave his extensive business interests here and transfer the family to his homestead near Eagle Butte, where, since Sept 29, 1910, Mr and Mrs Baumann and all but three of their unmarried children have been living near to nature. The change at first appeared to be beneficial and her last illness approached very suddenly, death being due to heart trouble. The remains were brought here by the most expeditious means and the funeral service, with solemn high mass by Rev Fr. Volz will take place at 9:30 a.m. today from St John's Catholic Church where a great concourse of the relatives and friends of the deceased will assemble. This unexpected death is felt as an affliction by the entire community and the bereaved have our most heartfelt sympathy. Mrs Baumann, whose maiden name was Anna Meidl, was born in Germany on May 3, 1866 and came to America at the age of one and one-half years with her parents, Margaretha and Blasius Meidl, and settled at Whitelaw, Manitowoc County, where the aged parents are still living. On her 20th birthday, May 3, 1886, she was married in Whitelaw to Louis Baumann and they moved to Hewitt where they resided for three years. In 1889, Mr and Mrs Baumann took up their residence in Marshfield where they met with great business success and became one of the cities most influential families. This city has since been their permanent home, the move to Eagle Butte last year being in the nature of a health seeking trip. Deceased is survived by her devoted husband and nine children, four girls and a five boys. Mrs Barbara Hastreiter of Aberdeen, S.D. Misses Theresa, Rose and Anna Baumann, Messrs Anton, Louis, Phillip, Theodore and Alphonse Baumann, residing at the family home. She also leaves the following sisters and brothers, Mrs John Schamburek and Wolfgang Pritzel of Whitelaw, Messrs Michael Meidl, Blase Meidl of Whitelaw, and John Meidl of Phlox, Wis. Three of her sisters have died in the past thirteen months; Sister Phillipine, Mrs Mary Pritzel and Mrs Frances Geiger. Mrs Baumann was active in church and social circles, a member of the Widows and Orphans Donation Society and of the Altar's Society of St John's Catholic congregation. A generous and faithful friend, a devoted wife and mother, the deceased enjoyed the admiration and esteem of a host of friends to whom her death at the prime of life is a severe shock.
